Barbara Sue Epperson, 82, of Gordon, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Barbara was born on December 1, 1943, in Baird, Texas, to John and Gladys Boutwell. She graduated from Graham High School in 1961. On June 14, 1963, she married the love of her life, Kenneth Epperson. Together they shared 59 wonderful years of marriage until Kenneth's passing in November 2022.
Barbara faithfully served the City of Gordon as City Secretary for 42 years. Her dedication, kindness, and commitment to her community touched countless lives. She retired in 2015, leaving behind a legacy of service and friendship.
Above all else, Barbara was the heart and matriarch of her family. She treasured every moment spent with her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her home was filled with love, laughter, and the joy of family gatherings. She also enjoyed traveling and sightseeing, making treasured memories on countless road trips with her dear friends, Sue and JoAnn.
Barbara is survived by her daughters, Tammy Wood and husband Buck of Ennis, Texas, and Cindy Wigington and husband Kirby of Jacksboro, Texas; one granddaughter, Tonya Parrish and husband Christopher; two grandsons, Jacob Wigington and wife Kari of Copperas Cove, Texas, and Jarrett Wigington of Lubbock, Texas; two great-grandsons, Carter and Carson of Ennis, Texas; and three great-granddaughters, Devyn, Mia, and Dusti of Copperas Cove, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kenneth Epperson, and her parents, John and Gladys Boutwell.
Barbara will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her generous heart, her dedication to her community, and the warmth she shared with everyone who knew her. Her legacy of love, strength, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 2, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Edwards Funeral Home in Strawn, Texas.
A private graveside service will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m.
