It is with both sorrow and joy that we announce the passing of Cecilia Irene "Sissy" Scott, age 73, who danced her way to eternity on June 28, 2026, at her home in Mingus, TX. Sissy was born on January 24, 1953, in Ranger, TX, to Cecil and Vera (Meredith) Wyatt. Growing up in Strawn, TX, her spirit forever lingered in that cherished community.
Sissy's love story with her late husband, James Allen Scott, began with their marriage on February 17, 1978, which blossomed for decades until he transitioned to the loving embrace of heaven on June 1, 2023. Their enduring love served as the foundation for a beautiful family, and Sissy found her greatest joy in being a devoted mother and grandmother.
As an active member of the First Baptist Church in Gordon and a longtime participant in the Order of the Eastern Star, Sissy poured her heart into her community. Her day-to-day life was enriched by her deep love for animals, including dogs, cats, birds, raccoons, and goats, whom she cared for with a nurturing spirit, and she delighted in preparing meals for church gatherings.
Sissy's zest for life showed in various ways, from square dancing with the Eastland County Spinners in her younger years to enjoying cherished family Sunday lunches after church in her later days. Sissy's legacy of love, nurturing, and unwavering support will continue through her surviving family: son Ricky Jones and wife Lou of Strawn, sons Cody Scott and wife Sara, and Christopher Scott and partner Lisa Baker, all of Mingus; daughter Jamie Scott of Mingus; grandchildren Gracie, Jamie, Gavin, Tyler, Sara, Ashlyne, Mikayla, Wyatt, and Riley; and great-grandchildren Vivian, Nora, Rocker, and Porter, along with a special niece, Shelly Wilson and husband Poncho and their two children, Kaleb and Kennedy, and many friends and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Vera Wyatt; husband, James Allen Scott; son, James Allen Scott, II and three brothers, Meredith, Gary and Terry Wyatt.
Pallbearers are; Tyler Ross, Gavin Duncan, Harrison Nowak, Thomas Wylie, Kaleb Swan and Poncho Wilson.
Sissy will be honored in a service filled with love and remembrance on Thursday, July 2, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Gordon. Bro. Albert Oliveira will officiate this celebration of her remarkable life. A private interment will follow the service, allowing her family to honor her tender spirit in peace. Prior to the service, friends and loved ones will gather for a visitation on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Edwards Funeral Home in Strawn.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial contributions be made to the Mingus Gordon Food Bank at 215 Alpine St., Gordon, TX 76453 or to the First Baptist Church at 212 Clay St., Gordon, TX 76453, continuing Sissy's legacy of giving and compassion.
While we mourn Sissy's passing, we celebrate the vibrant life she lived, filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering spirit of generosity. In the hearts of her family and community, her memory will continue to shine brightly.
