It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charles Ervin Boyd, a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who departed this life on September 6, 2025, in Ranger, Texas. Born on September 5, 1939, in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, Charles was the son of Ervin John Boyd and Callie Jane Hairell.
After graduating from Tishomingo High School, Charles moved to Aspermont, Texas, where he began working in home construction. It was there that he met the love of his life, Gwen Millican, whom he married in June of 1959. Together they built a life full of love, adventure, and family, raising two sons and surrounding themselves with a large extended family. Gwen preceded him in death on June 22, 2013.
In the early years of their marriage, Charles proudly served his country in the United States Army, stationed in Germany and White Sands, New Mexico. Following his service, he and Gwen settled in Garland, Texas, where they raised their sons. Charles worked as a draftsman for Texas Instruments, where his attention to detail and skill contributed to the development of the first Texas Instruments handheld calculator and the now-familiar automobile seatbelt alarm.
Charles is survived by his two sons: Pat Boyd of Eastland and Perry Boyd (Carole) of Azle. He was a devoted grandfather to three grandchildren-Taylor Boyd (Charee), Kelli Griffin (Jacob), and Trevor Boyd (Candice)-and a proud great-grandfather to seven great-grandchildren. His legacy of adventure, laughter, and creating lasting memories will live on in each of them.
Beyond his professional and family achievements, Charles was known for his passions. He was an avid fisherman, a domino player, and an intensely competitive golfer. Wherever Charles and Gwen made their home, it became a gathering place filled with food, games, and joy. After retiring to Lake Leon, the couple loved traveling in their fifth wheel across the central and western United States, sharing countless adventures with family and friends.
A visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 12, 2025, at Edwards Funeral Home in Eastland, where family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Charles. A graveside service will follow at 12:30 p.m. in the Eastland City Cemetery.
In this time of sorrow, we honor Charles's memory and the profound impact he had on the lives of those around him. May he rest in peace, knowing he was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
