Elizabeth Harrison

November 18, 1932 — October 12, 2025

It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of our beloved Granny, Elizabeth "Liz" Harrison, on Sunday, October 12, 2025. The impact of her near 93 years is immense, and we take comfort knowing she will dwell in the house of the Lord forever, as she frequently quoted from her favorite Psalm 23.

Elizabeth Ann Sylvester was born on November 18, 1932, in Eastland, Texas, to Cecil Lee and Trophie Rae Todd Sylvester. She lived in various places while growing up and graduated from high school in Fallon, Nevada. She returned to Texas to attend Ranger Junior College where she was crowned Queen of 1951, their "very own beautiful Queen Elizabeth".

Liz married Billy Joe "Bill" Harrison on June 10, 1951, in Ranger, Texas, and they were married 57 years before his passing. They resided in Ranger, South Houston, and Eastland, with their three children Phillip, Ralph, and Nancy. Bill and Liz owned and operated H&R Lumber in Eastland, cattle auction barns in Breckenridge and Ranger, a cattle trucking business, HTH Trucking, and Harrison Land and Cattle, all of which Liz took care of the bookkeeping and dispatch. She was a devoted ranching wife, feeding many cowboys at her table.

Bill and Liz traveled many miles as part of the Old Timers Rodeo Association. They made many lifelong friends and memories throughout Texas, Oklahoma, Nevada, New Mexico, California, and Wyoming while on the circuit. Liz participated in ribbon roping with Bill, chasing down the calves he roped to retrieve the ribbon for the fastest time. She was always faithful to send postcards back home to family members.

Liz was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church where she taught children's Sunday School. She loved serving people through the Meals on Wheels program in Eastland. She was also an extremely faithful sister, aunt, cousin, and grandmother.

Her greatest achievement in life was being "Granny". She was actively involved in the lives of her grandchildren, raising two special grandsons as her own, and helping mold them all into the people they are today. She could be found daily at ball games, concerts, plays, recitals, and programs in her cute little hats. Through her involvement, she became "Granny" to all who knew her, kids and adults alike. She carried this on into the next generation as a great-grandmother, too. She loved sending cards and singing the birthday song over the phone. She also kept every picture or drawing ever made for her, displaying most around her house.

Granny's house was a place of belonging and an open door for all. Dozens entered her doors each holiday, and she wanted to take care of everyone. Most were called "punkin", and all were loved. Our matriarch lived an amazing long life, one of goodness and mercy all her days.

Liz was preceded in death by her husband Bill; mother and stepfather Trophie and Chester Green; father and stepmother Cecil and Thelma Sylvester; brother Cecil Ray Sylvester; and numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law, beloved aunts and uncles, and special family members.

She is survived by her son Phillip Harrison and wife Jerrilynn of Cisco; son Ralph Harrison and wife Teresa of Cisco; daughter Nancy Finley and husband Jody of Eastland; grandson Hayden Harrison of Ft. Worth; grandson Rylan Harrison of Eastland; granddaughter Tifani Smith and husband Justin of Anson; granddaughter Amber Deal and husband Josh of Comanche; grandson Austin Harrison and wife Melinda of Cheney, Kansas; granddaughter Albany Busby and husband Caleb of Cisco; grandson Will Johnston of Eastland; grandson Jeremy Finley and wife Hannah of Abilene; grandson LG Tretter and wife Tiffany of Strawn; grandson Lucas Tretter and wife Tiffany of Cisco; granddaughter Katy Wells and husband Mason of Weatherford; numerous other special "grands"; over 20 great-grandchildren; and beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Family visitation will take place from 5:30-7:30 pm on Wednesday, October 15, at Edwards Funeral Home in Eastland. Funeral services for Liz are scheduled for 10:00 am on Thursday, October 16, at First United Methodist Church of Eastland, officiated by Dr. Shawn Brewer. Interment will follow at Eastland City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons Hayden Harrison, Rylan Harrison, Austin Harrison, Will Johnston, Jeremy Finley, Justin Smith, Josh Deal, and Caleb Busby. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Meals on Wheels of Eastland or the Lisa Gaeta Medical Relief fund at First Financial Bank of Eastland. A special thank you is extended to Dr. Robert DeLuca, the staff of The Woodlands Assisted Living and Nursing Home, and Solaris Hospice for their genuine care for our Granny.

Granny would like you all to know that she loves you, wants you to just be careful, zip up those jackets, and watch for snakes.
