Finis Harold Butler was born February 2, 1934 in Spur, Texas to his loving parents, Milton Heisor and Matilda Ann Butler and he left this earth on December 13, 2025.
Finis was the baby of his family, raised in Girard, Texas with his three siblings, Wayne, Dortha (Dot) and Estelle (Steve). Their family was a farming family, working hard together, which impacted his work ethic for the rest of his life. They were also a musical family, some playing instruments, some performing in a gospel quartet, and also writing music. Finis took the love of music and performing with him through the years.
He loved baseball and that was something that he and his dad bonded over, he often shared a story about his dad sitting back on his haunches watching him and coaching him, like all dads do, apparently even back in the 40s. He carried on his dad's love of baseball throughout his life. He graduated from Girard Highschool in 1951 and attended Texas Tech. He served in the military in the mid fifties and was proud of his service to our country.
He married his Highschool Sweetheart, Winnie Smith, on January 30th 1954. They welcomed their daughter Brenda, on February 4th 1959 and their daughter Denise, on March 12th, 1970. He adored his daughters, referring to them as "his girls". They each shared a special bond with him and he was so proud of them and their families. He and Winnie shared a beautiful life until Winnie's passing in 1994.
Finis also shared a special bond with his son in laws David and Eric, and he was very proud to call them his best friends.
Finis worked in many industries over the years in different communities. He lived in Brownwood, Spur, and settled in Strawn in 1979. He worked in auto sales, banking, insurance sales, monument sales, and served as the City Secretary for the City of Strawn. He loved his neighbor well, and with that came the love of his community. He served in many different roles in the City of Strawn and was thrilled to see the State Park come to fruition as he was instrumental in the early stages of bringing the park to Strawn.
Finis married his wife, Anne on January 13th, 1996 and he acquired two sons Ralph and Frank, and added the new role of "step-daddy" to his list. It's not often that someone gets to have a beautiful marriage twice, but after the passing of Winnie, Anne fit into the family perfectly. He referred to her as his dear and he loved her until the day he left the earth. While his marriage to Winnie was a picture of young love, his marriage to Anne was a picture of growing old together, and he was blessed by them both, as was the rest of his family.
Finis loved to play music and did so with many friends over the years. There are too many to list here but he loved his music friends and they all played such an important part in his life.
Finis found great joy in his family and they were the most important thing to him. He loved being a PawPaw and a Great PawPaw and he was loved by those around him. That was evidenced by the fact that when he spoke, they listened, whether it was to listen to him sing, tell a joke or give life advice.
Finis was preceded death by his wife Winnie Butler, parents, Milton & Annie Butler, brother, Wayne Butler, sister, Dortha Johnson, sister Estelle Luna, and great grandsons Jaxsen and Creed.
