F.E. "Gene" Kribbs
Beloved Husband, Brother, Dad, Pop, Uncle, and Friend
August 19, 1942 - July 19, 2025
F.E. "Gene" Kribbs, a devoted family man, accomplished welder, passionate sailor, and spirited adventurer, passed away on July 19, 2025, at the age of 82.
Born on August 19, 1942, in Arlington, Texas, Gene attended Odessa High School and the Schreiner Institute in Kerrville, Texas. Shortly after high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, proudly serving his country for four years.
Following his military service, Gene launched a remarkable and far-reaching career in welding. He began at McVean and Barlow, which set the course for a lifelong path in a trade he loved. His work took him across the globe-from welding underwater in the North Sea and the Bay of Campeche to laying pipelines in Algeria, the Alaskan wilderness, the Mojave Desert, and numerous other states. Gene eventually rose to become a superintendent and certified welding inspector for Apache Corporation, and a project coordinator for El Paso Corporation. He was also a proud and dedicated member of the Pipeliners Union Local 798 for over 60 years.
After retiring, Gene embraced his two favorite pastimes: sailing and traveling the open road in his motor home. He was never happier than when he was out on the water, wind in his sails and family or friends by his side. Gene welcomed anyone aboard who shared his love for adventure-or just needed a calm moment on the water. He made a point of turning even ordinary weekends into lasting memories.
He was a steady presence at family events, showing up with a smile, a story, and often a little financial wisdom to pass along-whether solicited or not. Gene never missed an opportunity to offer advice on interest rates, budgeting, or the importance of "paying yourself first."
Gene's wisdom, humor, and deep love for his family were constants throughout his life. That love extended to his cats, who weren't just pets but cherished members of the family. He shared his home, his lap, and often his favorite chair with them, and they returned his affection with loyalty and purrs. His support for animal welfare was heartfelt, and he took great joy in helping care for and protect the animals he loved.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jan Kribbs; his sister, Kay Stephens; his children: Arthur "Tosh" Kribbs, Krista Kribbs-Seamour, Franklin "Tracy" Kribbs; and his stepson, Donald "Donnie" Warwick. He also leaves behind many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren-with one more on the way.
Gene will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing him. His adventurous spirit, sharp wit, and endless knowledge of life, politics, and money made him truly one of a kind.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Belinda's House of Cats Furever Meow in Odessa, Texas-a cause close to Gene's heart.
A Graveside service for Gene will be held at 3:00PM on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Evergreen Cemetery in Ranger, TX with Melvin Green officiating. The family will gather for a visitation time at Edwards Funeral Home - Ranger from 1:00PM until 2:45PM.
