James Bradley Couger, known to his family and friends as Brad, passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2026. Services will be held at First Baptist Church in Strawn, Texas, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, with Eric Nowak officiating.
Brad was born on December 8, 1982, to Greg and Nancy Couger in Dallas, Texas. He graduated from Strawn High School in 2001. He married the love of his life, Kourtnee, on October 13, 2013, and they welcomed their son, Maverick James Couger, into the world on October 11, 2018. He was an oilfield sales representative by trade and worked at Cross Plains Oil Field Supply in Mineral Wells for 23 years.
Brad loved being a husband, and he especially loved being a father. Maverick was the joy of his life. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, hunting, fishing, playing cards, and restoring old boots. His sense of humor was unmatched, and he left everyone he met smiling.
Brad attended Cedar Springs United Methodist Church in Brad, Texas. He was strong in his faith and showed the love of Jesus in everything he did, especially in the way he loved people.
Brad was preceded in death by his parents, Greg and Nancy Couger. He is survived by his loving wife Kourtnee and son Maverick; his siblings Shad Kline and Jake Couger, both of Gordon, and K'Lynn and her husband Jon of Round Rock; and his nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, coworkers, and countless friends.
Brad will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Those who wish to help the family can donate to the Kourtnee Couger Benefit Fund at Clear Fork Bank or send donations via Venmo @kourtnee-couger.
