Janice Gibson

May 10, 1955 — April 17, 2026

Janice Ann Gibson, lovingly known as "MeMaw," passed away peacefully on Friday, April 17, 2026, in Temple, Texas. She was welcomed in great celebration by her Lord and Savior and reunited with her beloved husband, John, along with many family members and friends who had gone before her.

Janice was born on May 10, 1955, to Lloyd and Elaine (Carpenter) Perkins in Stockton, California. On March 30, 1973, she married John Gibson, the love of her life.

Janice had a servant's heart and found joy in giving to and caring for others. She loved to cook and bake for those she loved. Her family will forever treasure the many sweet memories she created, which will remain tucked in their hearts always.

She enjoyed listening to gospel music, watching game shows, sports, soap operas, and Hallmark movies, and spending time working puzzles.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Avir at Western Hills in Temple. So many of the nurses there cared for Janice so lovingly in her final years. She loved you dearly and always spoke fondly of your conversations and compassionate care. The family would also like to thank the hospice nurses with Gentiva Hospice for taking such sweet care of her and keeping her comfortable in her final days.

Janice is survived by her daughter, Sheila Gibson Surovik and husband Ray of Belton; grandson, Colton Surovik of Belton; granddaughter, Kelsey Soward and husband Will of La Vernia; great-grandson, Callen Soward, expected in July; sister, Sandy Lee; and several nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces whom she loved dearly.

Services are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home in Strawn. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the funeral home. A graveside service will follow at the Gibson family cemetery officiated by Mike Orsini, located at 3447 CR 119, Gordon.
