Joann Priest

Joann Clements Priest, a beloved daughter, sister, mother and grandmother, passed peacefully from this world on September 21, 2026, at the age of 90 in Ranger, TX. She was born in Anson, TX, to the late Walter L. and Minnie (Bayless) Clements.

Joann lived a rich and vibrant life marked by her love for family, friends, and her community. She served as Vice President of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 4136, where she was known fondly as the "shuffleboard queen", delighting in the sport with unwavering enthusiasm. Her creative spirit shone through her passion for antiques and ceramics; she loved repurposing treasures and bringing her imagination to life with each piece.

An athlete in her youth, Joann enjoyed playing volleyball, softball and watching tennis. Her dedication to her hobbies was mirrored in her love of flower gardening at her Lake Leon home, where she found joy and tranquility in evenings spent outdoors with her family. Surrounded by blooming gardens and twinkling solar lights, she cherished those quiet moments by the fire, sharing stories and laughter. Her heart would warm at the sight of her beloved fur baby, Tally.

Joann is survived by her loving children, Kathryn Diane Dawson and husband Robert of Eastland; son Gregory Scott Priest and wife Susan of Arlington; and daughter Brenda Zietz and husband Bode of Eastland. She is also survived by her treasured grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Beverly Dawson, Taylor Dawson and wife Jennifer, children Laike and Rustin Dawson, Deidre Priest and children, Amber Lewis and husband Michael and their children. Joann is remembered by her sister, Ruby Dressler of Iowa Park, and many cherished nieces and nephews. Special thanks go to J.R. Clements for helping with the arrangements

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Minnie Clements; her brother, Buddy Clements; and her sisters, Virginia Carter and Helen Mearse.

Joann's spirit and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, September 28, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Sweetwater Cemetery, with Chaplain Jackye Leal officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home Eastland. Please note that there will not be a visitation time.
