It is with both a heavy heart and a spirit of gratitude that we announce the passing of our beloved Joe Norman George, who departed this life on October 27, 2026, at the age of 86. Joe was born on November 9, 1939, in Mineral Wells, Texas, to Thomas and Abbie (Hammons) George. He served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1962 until 1964, achieving the rank of Specialist 4.
Joe enjoyed a rich and fulfilling life. He married the love of his life, Mary Mygreet Gary, in 1974, and together they created beautiful memories, from their cherished RV adventures to their joyful nights dancing. After Mary's passing in 2006, Joe continued to celebrate life through his passions, including dancing, watching baseball, and enjoying the great outdoors with his grandchildren on hiking and fishing trips.
A proud lifetime member of the Mineral Wells VFW, Joe spent his professional life with the Texas Highway Department, where he made lasting contributions until his retirement.
He is survived by his daughter, Shelly Guinn and her husband Terry; his grandchildren, Curtis Guinn and Armenda Guinn; one great-grandchild, Karsyn Guinn; and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom were blessed to have him in their lives.
Preceding him in death were his beloved parents, Thomas and Abbie George; his devoted wife, Mygreet George; his sister, Fairy Smith; and brother-in-law, Wayne.
In honor of Joe's remarkable life, the family invites you to join them in a celebration of his life. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at 2:00 PM at New Gordon Cemetery, with Rev. Kristen Perkins Glover officiating. Prior to this, a time of visitation will take place on Friday, October 30, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Edwards Funeral Home Strawn. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff at The Woodlands in Eastland for the compassion and care they provided to Joe.
