Mary Young

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mary Candace Young, a beloved mother, friend, and cherished member of the Mingus community, who left us peacefully on March 29, 2025, at the age of 78. She was born on March 8, 1947 to William Baker and Lillie Woods Baker. Mary dedicated her life to her family, serving as a devoted homemaker and creating a warm and loving environment for her sons, Kevin Young, David Young, Jason Young, Rodney Young, and her daughter, Gloria Young.

She was a member of the Mingus Baptist Church, enjoyed crafting, and was an avid collector - especially roosters. She loved to holler. Her kids and grandkids called her "Screaming Memaw"!

Mary was a woman of strong spirit and kindness, whose laughter and compassion touched the lives of all who knew her. Her nurturing nature and unwavering support for her family will be forever remembered and cherished. She found joy in the simple moments, valuing the love of her family and friends above all else.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a public viewing at Edwards Funeral Home in Strawn on April 3, 2025, 4 ~ 6 PM. A graveside service will be held at New Gordon Cemetery on April 4, 2025, at 1:00 PM, where we will gather to honor and celebrate Mary's life and the indelible mark she left on our hearts.

Though Mary has departed from this world, her love will continue to guide and inspire all of us.

She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, William Baker & Lillie Woods Baker; her husband, Carl Young; son, Rodney Young; brothers, William Jerry Baker and John David Baker; and sister, Ima Gene Baker.

Survivors include her sons, Kevin Young, David Young, Jason Young, and her daughter, Gloria Candace Young; grandkids, Samantha Young, Shaun Young, Dominique Flores, Timothy Flores, Saria Flores, Brianna Young, Hailie Young, and Lillian Flores; great-grandkids, Tierney Crosby, Elijah Crosby & Ja'Varius Crosby, Karston Slaughter, Wyatt & Jed Young, Oliver Kelleher, Layton Drost, and Waylon Burger.
