With heavy hearts but joyful memories, we announce the passing of Sarah Kay (Carpenter) Spiller, who entered eternal rest on January 17, 2026, at the age of 86, surrounded by her loving family in Palo Pinto, TX. Born on September 15, 1939, in Roaring Springs, TX, Sarah was a beacon of kindness and warmth.
Sarah was cherished for her deep love for family and friends, her adventurous spirit, and her unwavering faith. She shared 53 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband, James "Bob" Spiller, whom she married on August 20, 1972, in Arlington, TX. Together, they embarked on a journey around the world, supporting each other through Bob's distinguished military career. Sarah's heart was as vast as her travels; she volunteered tirelessly, earning numerous awards for her dedication to helping military families.
Sarah found joy in thrifting, decorating, cooking, canning, and spending time at the lake fishing. Her laughter and love will forever echo in the hearts of her family and friends.
Sarah is survived by her devoted husband, Bob Spiller; her loving daughters, Beverly Reinders and her husband Charles of Aubrey, TX, and Sally Lanier of Flatonia; three adoring grandchildren, Melissa Knittel and her husband Robert, Jacob R. Spiller and his wife Whitney, and Cody Stewart Lanier; and five precious great-grandchildren: Halley Scherrer and her husband Michael, Gabriel Rudd, Grady Knittel, Maci Spiller, and Barrett Spiller. She is also survived by her brother, Lewis Haley Carpenter and his wife Janiece, along with numerous nieces and nephews who will carry her spirit forward.
Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, Murphy and Sally Carpenter; her beloved son, Joe Jimmy Spiller; and two brothers and five sisters, who will surely welcome her in a joyful reunion.
A memorial service to celebrate Sarah's vibrant life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to share stories and honor her legacy of love and service. Cremation arrangements are being handled by Edwards Funeral Home Strawn.
As we remember Sarah, let us cherish the moments we shared and the love she generously gave. Her spirit will forever shine brightly in our hearts.
