Wanda Sue Cherry

December 22, 1944 — August 7, 2024

Wanda Sue Cherry, 79, of Ranger, passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2024. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Ranger with Rev. Robby Neyland officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Ranger. Visitation will be at 9:00 am at the First Baptist Church in Ranger.
She was born on December 22, 1944, in Stamford, TX, to John D. and Wanda Halliburton. She married Robert Wayne Cherry on June 21, 1963, in Clyde. She had an in-home day care for several years and helped raise half of the children in Ranger. She was mom, “Nanny Sues” and then “Nanny” to many and even was a foster parent.
Sue graduated from Ranger College and became an LVN in 1978 and worked in various hospitals, nursing homes, and home health. She had a gift in creating and decorating beautiful cakes. She did everything from wedding cakes, baby shower cakes, and especially awesome birthday cakes.
She loved her family with all of her heart. She always remembered all of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren’s birthdays with a card and gift. If any family member needed something for their house, she had it in one of her many storage places. She also loved Elvis Presley with all of her heart. She was a die-hard fan and her favorite memories included recently traveling with Micheal and Teri and their crew to Branson, Missouri, and saw an all-time great Elvis impersonator. But if you asked Nanny, Elvis was still alive.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Wayne Cherry; her son-in-law, Michael Wells; and great grandson, Kace Wayne Cherry,
Survivors include her son, David Cherry and wife Kim; daughters, Teresa Davlin, Toni Wells, Teri Brooks and husband Michael, Damien Hughes and husband Chris; Tailynn and Dixie Cherry; sister and brother in law, Patty and Jack McCarty; her niece, Jennifer McCarty; her grandchildren Stacha and Tyler, Laci and Shanea, John, Michael, Brittany and Emily, Mia and Ethan, Zane and Blane; 15 great-grandchildren; and her dog, Presley.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made for the girls at a fund set up at First Financial Bank in Ranger.
