History
Since April of 2024, all three Edwards Funeral Homes locations were purchased by Tim and Diana Meador.
Edwards Funeral Home, in Strawn, was founded in 1963 by Jerry and Pat Edwards. The location of the funeral home was originally the George J. Watson home, built in 1919 from plans drawn from a plantation home in West Virginia. The building has double brick walls, imported Italian granite railings, and seven coal-burning fireplaces. The Edwards family has continued to serve families in the area for over 47 years.
Jerry and Pat Edwards purchased Edwards Funeral Home in Ranger in 1977 from J. Floyd Killingsworth. Edwards Funeral Home in Eastland started out as Barrow Furniture & Undertaking Co. in 1919. In 1929, Ben Hamner bought the business from Mr. Barrow. About the same time, he purchased the Carbon Trading & Undertaking Co. from Mr. Speer.
After a short time, he closed it down and combined it with his funeral home in Eastland. He operated it until 1963 when he sold it to Jack and Eula Arrington. They operated the funeral home until Jerry and Pat Edwards purchased it in 1979. The Edwards family has continuously operated the business for over 31 years.
